The village of Crouch is located about 8 miles from hwy 55 on the Middlefork of the Payette River, it was named for William (Billy) Crouch one of the first settlers in this area. Billy Crouch came to Garden Valley country somewhere between 1870-1890 and homesteaded 40-60 acres where the City of Crouch now stands.

The town was given the name “Crouch” when a Post office was established in 1934. When the village became incorporated in 1951 (to permit alcohol and gambling), the name stuck! Today this is the only town governed by a mayor and city council members in the Garden Valley area. It is approximately 1 square mile and has about 170 residents.

The City of Crouch serves as the “business center” of Garden Valley with many shops, restaurants, bars, market, hardware store, lumber yard/store, daycare facility, laundromat, credit union, community hall, gas pumps, radio station, real estate offices, vacation rentals and motel, Starlight Mt. Theatre, car wash, 2 hair salons, barber shop, 2 coffee shops, quilt shop, fire department, Sr. Center, GV Center for the Arts, 19 acre park on the river, Syringa Museum and City Hall.

To get to Crouch, go north on Hwy 55 from Hwy 44 (State Street) about 40 miles, turn right onto the Banks Lowman Rd and proceed 8 miles, turn left onto the Middlefork Rd. and about 2/10ths of a mile later you have entered the “village”!

During the summer months, you can find all kinds of fun things to do…however we are known for our crazy Independence Day celebrations which always take place on the 4th of July. We start the morning off with a Pancake Feed at the Sr. Center, followed by the “Flag Raising” Ceremony, onto Kids Games in the park sponsored by local businesses, Soap Box Derby, River Raft Race, Duck Race, vendors in the downtown corridor, Parade and ending the evening with Fireworks provided by the Chamber of Commerce.

Also during the summer you can find something to do on most weekends, Flea Markets, Saturday Market, Motorcycle Rallies, Car Shows, Rodeo’s, Outdoor Summer Theatre, Kayaking Championships, Festivals and more, just check out the calendar of events for the upcoming season.
